Kali Linux (formerly known as BackTrack Linux) is an open-source, Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. It does this by providing common tools, configurations, and automations which allows the user to focus on the task that needs to be completed, not the surrounding activity.

Kali Linux contains industry specific modifications as well as several hundred tools targeted towards various Information Security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security Research, Computer Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Vulnerability Management and Red Team Testing.


To Setup Kali Linux on Oracle Virtual Box, Follow the below mentioned steps :


Step 1

  • Download Oracle Virtual Box from official Oracle Virtual Box Website. Click Here.
  • Install the Oracle Virtual Box

Step 2

  • Download Pre-Made Kali Images from osboxes.org. Click Here
  • Extract the downloaded Image.

Step 3

Open the Oracle Virtual Box

Click On New

Click On Expert Mode

Give a Name to Virtual Machine and select a Folder where you want to save the installation, preferably not system drive. In OS Type, Select Linux and Version Debian(64 bit).

Leave Unattended Install as it is.

In the Hardware Section, Increase the Base Memory and Increase the Processors as well.

Now, In the Hard Disk Section, Select Use an Existing Virtual Hard Disk File and Click Browse button on the right side.

Click on Add Button and navigate to the extracted kali image on the computer and select it and Click Open.

Click on Choose Button.

Click on Finish.

Click on Settings.

In the General Section, Advanced Tab, Make Shared Clipboard Bidirectional.

In the Display section, Increase the Video Memory to the full limit and Click Ok.

Now, Click on the Start button.

The New Virtual Machine will boot now.

Enter Username (osboxes) and Password (osboxes.org).

Congratulations !!! You have Successfully Installed Kali Linux on Virtual Box.
